“Welcome Home” party planned for Michael Vick in Atlanta

Did someone say Party Terez?? I'll bring the weed..

On Dec. 4, two days before the Eagles play the Falcons in Georgia, an outfit called New Order – which bills itself as a national human-rights organization – plans to hold a “welcome home” rally for Michael Vick in Atlanta. According to a team spokesman, Vick didn’t know about the rally and won’t attend since the Birds don’t fly South until Dec. 5. Bummer. Sounds like he’s going to miss a sweet party. New Order’s founder, Gerald Rose, said his organization has “40 or 50 members, on paper.” Naturally, the group picked a small, intimate venue to welcome Vick back. Maybe you’ve heard of it – it’s called the Georgia Dome. “We never supported dogfighting, but Michael loved this city and we loved him,” Rose said. “We feel that we owe Michael Vick. Even though he’s been gone from the city for a few years, we feel like we’ll get a great turnout and a lot of people to the rally.” J. Whyatt Mondesire – head of the Philadelphia NAACP – told reporters the same thing before Vick’s first preseason game. Mondesire promised a big march, then produced maybe 15 people before the game. – Philadelphia Inquirer

Make it an open bar and I’m sure you’ll get plenty of people to attend. -TO

In April, it leaked that former Falcon and current Eagle Michael Vick was shopping around a reality show.BET has picked it up. It’s set for eight episodes early next year and is tentatively titled “The Michael Vick Project,” according to the Los Angeles Times. “I just want people to really get to know me as an individual,” Vick said last week in an interview from his home in Philadelphia. “What I want to do is change the perception of me. I am a human being. I’ve made some mistakes in the past, and I wish it had never happened. But it’s not about how you fall, but about how you pick yourself up.” -Atlanta Journal Constitution

Brett Favre Vikings jerseys now top the list at No. 1, even though the jerseys only became available when Favre signed with the team a couple weeks ago. And despite being passed over by big retailer Dick’s Sporting Goods, Michael Vick’s Philadelphia Eagles jerseys sold well enough to make their debut at No. 4. Also of interest is the fact that Michael Crabtree jerseys are in the top 20 even though the Texas Tech wide receiver is still holding out. – CNBC (Sports Biz)

Michael Vick now plays for a team more than 800 miles away from the Georgia Dome. But you don’t have travel far to show you’re a true fan. You can find replicas of the quarterback’s No. 7 jerseys in some stores around Atlanta. And we’re not talking about those old-school red and black styles. “We got 20 requests for them the day he got signed with the Eagles,” said Dwayne Clarke, manager of the Champs Sports store at The Mall at Stonecrest. On Aug. 13, the Philadelphia Eagles announced a deal with the former Falcon during an exhibition game. Three days later, Atlanta stores got their first shipments of Vick jerseys. Vick will make his preseason debut Thursday night for the Eagles, who host the Jacksonville Jaguars at 7. The regular season begins Sept. 13. “Even though he’s a third-string quarterback, he’s Michael Vick,” Clarke said. Clarke said he’s waiting on another shipment of the black adult-size jerseys, which sell for $80. T-shirts are available for $26. Not into the all-black look? Head to Sports Fan-Attic at Town Center Mall in Kennesaw for your choice of green, white or black Vick jerseys. Even the younger fans can sport a jersey, says store manager Matt Owen. “We’re having a hard time keeping all the sizes,” Owen said. “There’s still a lot of Atlanta fans that were big fans and they’re still supporting him.” – Atlanta Journal-Constitution
