Out of respect to Michael Jordan, who sat courtside and watched James score 34 points, James said he is planning on switching his number after this season from No. 23 to No. 6. It just sort of came out, but it was obvious he’s been thinking about it for a while. And James wants to lead a movement to get every player who wears No. 23 in the league to give it up as a tribute to Jordan. Cleveland Plain Dealer

On the eve of his Garden visit, free-agent-to-be LeBron James spoke tonight before facing the Bulls and said enough hopeful things to keep Knick fans fantasizing about July 1. Certainly, James wants the Knicks as an option, whether as a bargaining chip or to keep his name alive. “I don’t tease, I’ve never teased the New York media my saying I was coming to New York or playing for the Knicks,” James said. “I saw the same thing every time. When July 1 gets here, I’m going to approach it like a business man and approach it for the best fit for LeBron and his family. “-New York Post

Some of the toughest days for LeBron James over the past year had nothing to do with basketball. It was the gut-churning period when he waited to make sure he didn’t have cancer. In his first interview on the subject since surgery to remove a tumor from his jaw area in June, James told The Plain Dealer there were several jittery days last January after he had a biopsy on the growing lump under his right ear. “It was a nerve- racking experience, but I knew at that point I had to get it done,” James said. “I was on edge for those few days; I was lucky the season was going on and we were playing really well so I could concentrate on basketball. My family was nervous.” Doctors at the Cleveland Clinic found a growth on James’ parotid gland, which produces saliva. Those tumors are somewhat rare; on average there’s usually around 2,500 cases each year. It represents only about 3 percent of all discovered tumors and just 6 percent of tumors found in the head and neck area, according to several medical reference Web sites. The better news for James was that between 70 percent and 80 percent of such tumors are found to be benign. That is what the doctors told him, trying to set him at ease. – Cleveland Plain Dealer

Edwards allegedly hit LeBron’s friend. James called Edwards “childish” for allegedly punching his friend early Monday morning following an argument outside a Cleveland night club. The Cavaliers superstar said Edwards punched his friend, Edward Givens, a promoter who was working outside the club around 2:30 a.m. EDT. -ESPN
