LeBron James’ statement was perhaps the strongest the Akron native has made in regard to his future here. ”I’m comfortable with being in Cleveland. I’m excited about it,” James told Schwarz. ”I’m loving the direction we’re [going] in and I’m loving the teammates I have and the organization. So if that’s any indication of me leaving, then somebody must be looking out the wrong box.” – Akron Beacon Journal Bron Bron has been chomping at the bit to play in MSG. I guess Cleveland doesn’t rock. -TO
CLEVELAND (AP) – Unstoppable at both ends of the floor this season, LeBron James is the NBA’s Most Valuable Player. James, who led the Cleveland Cavaliers to a team-record 66 regular-season wins and the top overall seed in the playoffs, will receive the award Monday, a person with knowledge of the choice told The Associated Press. James chose Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary High School, his alma mater, for the presentation, said the person, who spoke on condition of anonymity because the announcement has not been made. The Cavaliers announced a “major” news conference for 4 p.m. at the school, but did not give the reason. James is the first Cavaliers player to win the award. He averaged 28.4 points, 7.6 rebounds and 7.2 assists this season, his sixth as a pro. He also finished second in voting for defensive player of the year, making him perhaps the league’s most dominant two-way player since Michael Jordan. LeBron Crab dribbles his way to his first MVP. He is the King Crab for a reason. Congrats. -TO
After diving into the stands for a loose ball, LeBron James lands on a fan’s lap and gives her a kiss on the cheek. At least LeBron doesn’t kiss ass, thats why he is our boy. -TO
Typically, Jews and professional basketball don’t mix — not unless you’re talking about the early days of the game, when Jews were a dominating force. But one of basketball’s present-day greats, Cleveland Cavalier forward LeBron James, is merging the two in an unexpected way. When James was recently asked whom he would name as one of Time magazine’s “Time 100” — the publication’s list of the world’s most influential people — the superstar, who is a past Time 100 honoree, chose Jay Schottenstein, an Ohio businessman and philanthropist who funded ArtScroll’s translation of the Talmud into English, Hebrew and French. No word on the connection between the two. Time made little mention of Schottenstein’s business and philanthropic endeavors, which include a family contribution of $12.5 million for the construction of a sports complex at Ohio State University (James is not an alumnus). Instead, the magazine stressed Schottenstein’s work with Talmudic translations, writing, “The Schottenstein Edition of the Talmud is now utilized by more than 2 million people worldwide.” The Shmooze was unable to reach James for comment, and a rep for Schottenstein responded via e-mail, simply stating that James and Schottenstein have “mutual respect for each other” and that James was “impressed with the community involvement shown by Jay, including the elucidation and translation of the 73 volume Talmud Bavli.” Perhaps James is contemplating the benefits of becoming a member of the tribe? Our guess: not likely. Maybe it’s just plain old Ohio pride. -Daily Forward This is a fun story. I know for a fact that LeBron is not jewish. He jumps way too high to be a jew. I bet you his lawyers and accountants are jews though. -TO
With the final week of the regular season upon us, the elephant in the room still remains. Who is MVP? A few weeks ago, the questions were laid out on the table. A strong case was made for all three players — Kobe Bryant, Dwyane Wade and LeBron James. Kobe is clutch, D-Wade is a scoring machine (38 30+ point games this year) and LeBron is LeBron. If anyone is leading the pack, it’s the King, but a NBA legend had an interesting idea when asked about the MVP race. “If I had to pick, you know what I’d do?” Hall of Famer and five-time MVP center Bill Russell told USA Today. “For the first time in history, we’d have three MVPs. That’s not a negative on any of them — it’s paying the ultimate respect.” Now, before calling this a cop-out, and saying, “It’s Most Valuable Player, not Players,” read this. The NBA has never had an MVP race like this before. Arguments can be made for Russell vs. Wilt, Bird vs. Magic, Magic vs. MJ or even the more recent Nash vs. Shaq, but those were all one-on-one affairs. There has never been a race which involving three of the game’s elite. Russell is not the only one thinking this way. “Whew — can there be a three-way MVP? Whoever is voting for that award has their hands full with that thing,” Suns guard Jason Richardson said. That man is LeBron James. He is the first player ever to lead his team in every major statistical category. On the season, he has 2,211 points (28.3 ppg), 602 rebounds (7.7 rpg), 565 assists (7.2 apg), 135 steals (1.73 spg) and 91 blocks (1.17 bpg). The Cavs are also the best team in the league at 63-15 and nearly perfect at home (38-1). Even with the great seasons the other two have had, James’ season will go down as one of the best ever. And if he leads the Cavs to the promised land, it will be even more fitting. -NESN The King is winning the MVP. Kobe and Wade will split the second place votes. This has been a special year in the association. The NBA has a bright future ahead with these megawatt stars at the helm. Now, LeBron has to win 6 championships and maybe then he can be compared to His Airness . -TO
LeBron James expects to rest during Cleveland’s regular-season finale, a well-earned reward for leading the Cavaliers to home-court advantage throughout the playoffs. James scored 37 points as the Cleveland beat the Indiana Pacers 117-109 on Monday night to clinch the league’s best record. “It’s one step, however, it’s a big step,” James said. “When you consider all the great teams, all the great players, all the great coaches and all the great systems that are in the NBA, for us to finish with the best record is a tremendous feat. -Fox Sports LeBron is on a mission. The Cavs are unbeatable on their home court and LeBron will be this year’s MVP. Dwight Howard will win Defensive Player of the Year, but lose in the Eastern Conference Finals to LeBron. The Cavs will meet the Lakers in the finals but lose. They don’t have enough inside to matchup with Bynum, Gasol, and Odom. Can’t wait for the Playoffs to start. -TO
