Reps for Harrah’s hotel in Lake Tahoe are finally speaking out about the alleged sexual assault that occurred on their property back in 2008 involving Ben Roethlisberger. A civil lawsuit filed by Ben’s accuser — Andrea McNulty — claims Harrah’s head of security blew her off and threatened her job if she reported the alleged incident. -TMZ

A spokesperson tells us:

“We are confident that once all the facts are brought to light, a much different story will emerge and our employees will be dismissed from the case. It is also important to note that Harrah’s Entertainment is not a party to this case and we will have no further comment at this time.”

Why is ESPN failing to cover the Ben Roethlisberger story? “At this point, we are not reporting the allegations against Ben Roethlisberger because no criminal complaint has been filed,” an ESPN spokesman told me. “As far as we know, this is a civil lawsuit that Roethlisberger has yet to address publicly.” That’s true. Roethlisberger hasn’t addressed it publicly. And it doesn’t look like he’s going to any time soon. The Steelers canceled a news conference scheduled for tomorrow that was designed to promote Roethlisberger’s involvement with Shaquille O’Neal’s new reality show. But since when has an athlete’s silence or lack of cooperation prevented ESPN from covering a story? And Roethlisberger may not have addressed the civil suit, but his lawyer denied the claim on Roethlisberger’s behalf and told the AP the quarterback will be “fully exonerated.” Sure sounds like he’s aware of what’s happening. The sticking point for ESPN seems to be that the woman in question filed a civil suit instead of criminal charges. But a quick review of ESPN’s reporting history shows the company has covered several civil suits recently, including those filed against former Cowboy Adam “Pacman” Jones, former baseball star Roberto Alomar, and Lakers point guard Shannon Brown. The people responsible for putting content on ESPN and ESPN radio weren’t exactly thrilled yesterday. “People were going insane,” an ESPN source told me. “Fox News was doing the story. The AP had it. And they wouldn’t even let us mention it. You can’t ignore the story. It needs to be on SportsCenter. It makes us look bad. It’s not a topic for discussion, but you have to acknowledge that it’s being reported, that the story exists.”– Philadelphia Inquirer

The woman accusing Ben Roethlisberger of sexual assault claims she tried to tell the head of hotel security about the incident the day after it happened — but the guy completely blew her off and threatened her job. In her lawsuit filed last week in Nevada, Andrea McNulty claims Guy Hyder — the chief of security at Harrah’s in Lake Tahoe — told her she was “over-reacting” and that “most girls would feel lucky to have sex with someone like Ben Roethlisberger.” McNulty also claims Hyder told her that John Koster — the president of the hotel – will “personally fire you for starting rumors about Roethlisberger’s personal life.” – TMZ

An attorney for Ben Roethlisberger issued a statement late Monday denying that the Steelers quarterback sexually assaulted a woman in Nevada last year. Court dockets in Nevada show that Andrea McNulty filed a civil complaint Friday against Roethlisberger. “This weekend, Andrea McNulty served Ben Roethlisberger with a civil complaint accusing him of sexually assaulting her in July 2008,” according to a statement released by William David Cornwell Sr. of DNK Cornwell, a sports law firm based in Atlanta. “Ben has never sexually assaulted anyone, especially Andrea McNulty,” the statement reads. “The timing of the lawsuit and the absence of a criminal complaint and a criminal investigation are the most compelling evidence of the absence of any criminal conduct. If an investigation is commenced, Ben will cooperate fully and Ben will be fully exonerated,” according to the statement. – Pittsburgh Tribune-Review

Sources connected to the Ben Roethlisberger sexual assault case claim the psychiatric care the accuser says she’s under has nothing to do with Ben …. it has to do with a relationship she had with a man who never existed.

Andrea McNulty has sued Roethlisberger, the Pittsburgh Steelers Super Bowl champ, claiming he sexually assaulted her in July 2008. Sources tell us Roethlisberger and McNulty had a sexual liaison at the time but Ben insists it was purely consensual. We’re told the two knew each other because Ben had stayed at Harrah’s in Lake Tahoe over the last several years for golf tournaments — and she worked at the hotel.

Sources connected with the case tell us a former co-worker of McNulty’s at Harrah’s came forward with this incredible story — that around the time McNulty hooked up with Roethlisberger, she was allegedly involved with a married man. The man’s wife, we’re told, created an email account, posing as a U.S. soldier in Iraq. The wife began corresponding with McNulty to gain information. We’re told the former co-worker has said McNulty fell in love with the fictitious soldier and began telling people she was engaged to him. When the wife stopped the correspondence, McNulty then began telling people the soldier was killed in action.

Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Rothlisberger said he does not have skin cancer or a Facebook page, which reported he was battling the disease, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

“There’s no truth to it. I don’t have any of that stuff,” the Steelers quarterback proclaimed Wednesday.

“That stuff” are accounts on Facebook, MySpace, Twitter and any other social networking Web sites. Roethlisberger said he does not use them, including the one under his name that proclaimed he had skin cancer, the Post-Gazette reported.

“I had a bunch of people ask me about it; obviously it’s not true,” Roethlisberger said after spring practice. “We had to go on our Web site to let them know I don’t have an account. There’s nothing going on.”

Accounts proclaiming to belong to Roethlisberger were still listed Wednesday on Facebook.com, MySpace.com and Twitter.com.

Roethlisberger said someone in the office of his agent, Ryan Tollner, has been working on removing such posts as this one that proclaimed he was sick:

I am sorry to all my friends cause I have not been on here in a while. As you may soon find out, I have been diagnosed with skin cancer. It is not too serious, but will need further (sic) attention. This has taken up most of my time. I will try to get on here more. I would appreciate your prayers!

Tollner posted this response on the Web site Bigbennews.com:

“Ben positively does not have Facebook or MySpace pages, nor a Twitter account! Any such postings are imposters and should be disregarded. We are actively working to end this problem with those companies.”
