The Bucks were given a White House tour Wednesday morning rather than having their usual shootaround. It helps when you have connections, namely Bucks owner Sen. Herb Kohl. And the Bucks received a nice surprise when President Barack Obama stopped by to say hello and shake hands with all the players. “Everybody enjoyed it, the players, the coaches, myself,” Kohl said. “The president was kind enough to say hello and take a picture with the team.” But the Bucks knew they wouldn’t sway Obama’s allegiances. “Oh no, he’s a Bulls fan,” Kohl said. “It was a real thrill for the players and the coaches. He (Obama) had a kind word for everybody and it was really a big moment for us.” – Milwaukee Journal Sentinel

As president, Barack Obama has neglected the court. He has played only seven known games of basketball since taking office, compared with 25 rounds of golf, a sport he picked up about a decade ago when he was an Illinois state senator. That’s more golf than former President George W. Bush played in two terms, according to CBS White House correspondent Mark Knoller, who tracks presidential trivia. (In 2003, Mr. Bush quit golf, saying he did so out of respect for the troops serving in Iraq. Since leaving office, he has returned to the sport, an aide says.) And where Mr. Obama’s basketball game is showy and often televised, his golf is furtive and off-the-record. He plays with junior aides and discreet longtime friends. There’s no press allowed onto the course with him, no cameras — and few witnesses. A foursome of loyal staffers often plays out ahead of him, clearing the way and trying to ensure no one spies. – Wall Street Journal

LeBron James wants to dunk on former president George W. Bush

Terez, LeBron knows he can't dunk on me..I just know he'll use that crabbery dribble to do it..

Maxim magazine recently asked LeBron James, “If there was one guy on the planet you could dunk on, who would it be?” His response might produce as much reaction on Capitol Hill as on the basketball court. “If it doesn’t have to be a basketball player, George W. Bush,” James said. “I would dunk on [him], break the rim and shatter the glass.” – LA Times

Tiger Woods to play golf with President Obama at Martha Vineyard Golf Club?

Word here on the Vineyard is that the Secret Service has scoped out the oh-so-exclusive Vineyard Golf Club to prepare for a possible golf outing between President Obama and golf great Tiger Woods! Now, THAT is a photo op for the ages. Needless to say, no one is talking. But the buzz on the links is that Woods – who is coming off an upset loss to Y.E. Yang in the PGA Championship – will hop over to the island for a round of golf with the Duffer-In-Chief sometime next week during the prez’s summer hols. The presidential golf outing would fit rather nicely into Tiger’s schedule, as the World’s Greatest Golfer is expected to tee off in the Deutsche Bank Championship at TPC Norton on Sept. 4. Obama leaves The Rock on Aug. 30 and Woods normally shows up for the Deutsche Bank tourney four days in advance, so it’s all quite convenient! “The Secret Service was all over the course,” said Someone Who Knows. “They’re hard to miss in those big black Suburbans with the blacked-out windows.” As for the Vineyard Golf Club, it is one of the country’s most expensive private courses with a reported $350,000 membership fee – down in deference to the recession from $500,000. – Boston Herald

Fame doesn’t open every door. On Sunday, Shaquille O’Neal tried — and failed — to crash the White House without an appointment. The NBA star, in town for Monday night’s WWE Raw wrestling extravaganza, announced his plan Friday on our colleague Mike Wise’s radio show: “I jump out of a cab in front of the White House, I don’t use none of my political-law enforcement connections. If I go to the gate and say, ‘Hey, I’m in town, I would like to see the president,’ do I get in, or do I not get in?” Not. On Sunday afternoon, he wrote on Twitter, “The white house wouldn’t let me in, whyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy?” Because there are rules — even for you, Shaq. Bears coach Lovie Smith and the team’s new Pro Bowl quarterback, Jay Cutler, are among the invited guests for a private fundraising dinner Thursday for President Barack Obama. The dinner, at the Chicago home of Obama’s longtime friend Penny Pritzker and her husband, Bryan Traubert, will precede a major fundraising event at the Hyatt Regency downtown Thursday evening. Smith, who generally keeps out of politics, was one of the first sports figures in Chicago to speak out publicly about his support for Obama before his election. – Chicago Tribune …..
