An important correction from the White House: Barack Obama never called Tiger Woods for mantalk after the latter’s weepy Floridian presser. Ben Smith at Politico has traced the rumor back to a Golf Digest story, which has since been scrubbed of all mention of the fictive phoning. Golf Digest also reported that Bill Clinton offered support to Woods, and as of yet, no Clinton spokesperson has denied this is true. In fact, Clinton would likely rank among the 22% of people who told our Vanity Fair/60 Minutes poll that they would forgive Woods. — Vanity Fair
Maybe Obama left Tiger a voice-mail or text…but Clinton is someone who speaks Tiger’s language..maybe he dished out some tips on how to save the marriage? -TO
