The Duke Blue Devils have been in China to play some exhibition games against the Chinese National Team “II” — a group of up-and-coming young Chinese who are expected to be reserves on the 2016 national team. Yesterday, Yao Ming dropped by the Blue Devils’ hotel in Beijing to say hello to the team and visit with Mike Krzyzewski, Duke’s legendary coach…Later that night, Yao attended the game and Coach K presented him with a Duke jersey. Yao retiring is a sad story…He was so great, but at the end of the day, his enormous size caught up with him. -TO

If you haven’t already heard, an agent recently came forward admitting to paying college football players in order to sign them..It’s ridiculous the lengths agents will go to for college athletes in order to sign them come draft time…Now comes word from an inside source, longtime agent Arn Tellem has potentially violated NCAA guidelines in order to procure an NCAA basketball player..The college athlete in question, Duke’s Kyle Singler..The violation: Arn Tellem is the principal of WMG Management, a part of the Wasserman Media Group headed by Casey Wasserman..Arn recently hired Kyle Singler’s sister Katen, for a position at WMG Management..Kyle is entering his senior year at Duke, and my sources tell me he will be signing Arn Tellem as his agent..Arn hiring Kyle’s sister could be a direct violation of the NCAA guidelines prohibiting favors for family members of NCAA athletes in order to procure them..The story from the Singler family is Katen got the position on her own merit..However, if you look at the big picture, this is just another example of college athletes being catered to by agents before turning pro.. -TO
