Former Major League Baseball pitcher Dwight ‘Doc’ Gooden and actress Bai Ling on the streets of Manhattan yesterday in New York City…The two met on this past season’s Celebrity Rehab and formed a serious friendship, which I’m being told recently turned romantic……Gooden will be featured on tonight’s E:60 episode, where he’ll talk about his career and life, and of course about becoming hooked on cocaine during the Mets championship season…I hope these two find sobriety with each other. -TO

Dwight ‘Doc’ Gooden will be joining Drew ‘Doc’ Pinsky at the Pasadena Recovery Center for the next edition of Celebrity Rehab…Doc will join a group of Z listers with drug problems looking to make a quick buck…so ultimately they can buy more drugs…My sources at the PRC tell me that Michael Lohan and Bai Ling will also be on the show…So far I’m not really digging the crew…I am looking forward to seeing Doctor K though.. Update: They started production last night.  Doc was open to the idea of participating on the show but a deal was never put in front of him…Also Isaiah Rider was set to participate but due to “complications” he had to bow out..-TO

T, can I win a Cy Young for being a dead beat dad?

Apparently the Former Mets Star Pitcher is an ace at being a dead beat dad..According to his wife Monique, Doc has abandoned his family and left them with close to nothing.. “He’s left us with no money,” his spouse said. “When I got here to Maryland, I had to go apply for social services, food stamps and health insurance for the kids. He has offered no financial assistance to us” His wife also has no clue where Dwight has gone.. but last time she checked he had been holed up  in a hotel somewhere in New Jersey a few months back..“You know what, right now I’m so stressed, I’ve been so stressed that every day has been a struggle for me,” she said. “I just want support for the kids at this time . . . I just want to take care of them.” Last time we heard from Dwight in the news he was   arrested for driving under the influence and leaving the scene of an accident, child endangerment and motor vehicle violations in New Jersey after an accident that he was involved in back in March of this year. Fresh off his latest arrest, baseball legend and notorious troublemaker Dwight ‘Doc’ Gooden  was in Vegas for an autograph sesh..Dwight sat behind a table at Field of Dreams inside The Forum Shops at Caesars Palace and watched Tim Lincecum topple the Los Angeles Dodgers. “He’s tough. He’s got that fastball like I did,” Gooden said, watching the right-hander on a nearby television. “And he’s got a good over-the-top curve-ball that you don’t see much anymore. But his change-up, I didn’t have that.” “I like to watch great pitchers like that, especially nowadays when the game is more offensive, with the stadiums being bandboxes and all that. It’s good to see.” Gooden signed autographs and interacted with fans and surprisingly no one brought up his recent arrest..-TO

New York Mets legend Dwight ‘Doc’ Gooden was arrested at 8 a.m. yesterday and charged with a DWI in Franklin Lakes, New Jersey according to deadspin. The police say he had his child in the car with him.. He has been charged with “Under the Influence of a Controlled Dangerous Substance, Endangering the Welfare of a Child, Driving While Under the Influence of Drugs, DWI with a Child Passenger, Leaving the Scene of a Motor Vehicle Accident, Reckless Driving, Failure to Keep Right and Failure to Notify Change of Address regarding driver’s license.. and being a total retard.. Sheff and the Doc moving to NYC

The New York Mets will sign outfielder Gary Sheffield, a baseball source told ESPN 1050 New York’s Andrew Marchand.

Sheffield, nine-time All-Star who was released Tuesday by the Detroit Tigers. held a private workout Thursday for several teams interested in signing him, including the Mets. Following the workout, the team had been working on determining whether it could find enough at-bats for Sheffield to make signing him make sense.

The Cincinnati Reds and Philadelphia Phillies were also interested in Sheffield. Sheffield, a lifetime .292 hitter, hit .291 with 34 homers and 123 RBIs with the New York Yankees in 2005, culminating a seven-year span in which he batted .307 and averaged 35 home runs and 110 RBIs.

Sheffield batted .247 and averaged 22 home runs and 66 RBIs in two seasons with the Tigers.

He was batting only .178 in spring training before his release.

Sheffield’s Uncle Doc probably stepped in and got him a job. Omar Minaya, the Mets GM thinks he is real sharp. After they milk Sheff for his 500th Homerun, they will probably dump his ass just like the Tigers.  Hack away Gary. -TO

Detroit (AP) Gary Sheffield is one Home Run shy of 500.

The question is: What uniform will he be wearing when he hits it?

The Detroit Tigers released the nine-time All-Star on Tuesday, leaving him without a team as he closes in on becoming the 25th player to reach the milestone.

The slugger’s stay in Detroit was a disappointing one. The team was hopeful Sheffield would be a powerful presence at the plate in the final season of the $28 million, two-year contract extension it gave him after acquiring him from the Yankees for prospects.

But Sheffield failed to deliver in large part because he often was injured.

The move came a day after the Tigers acquired outfielder Josh Anderson from Atlanta, forcing the team to make some tough decisions about its roster a week ahead of opening the season in Toronto.

Sheffield, 40, had a .178 batting average in 18 spring training games this year. The designated hitter had eight hits — including five home runs — in 45 at-bats.

An e-mail seeking comment was sent to Sheffield on Tuesday, and a telephone message was left with his representative. His uncle, Doc Gooden, and other family members had planned to attend Detroit’s season-opening series, hoping to watch him reach 500.

Sheffied might be done. No one want him. He is a prickly dude at times. Did you know his Uncle is Doc Gooden?  Maybe the apple doesn’t fall that far from the tree.
