Terez, Heidi knows work comes first in our marriage...

With Cole Hamels still on the mound yesterday, Frank Coppenbarger, the Phillies’ director of team travel and clubhouse services, spotted a text message on his own cell phone. The text had come in at 4:07 p.m. – from Hamels’ wife, Heidi. The full text: “I’m in the hospital going into labor. Could you please tell Cole as soon as he is done pitching.” While Hamels was pitching, Coppenbarger had followed instructions and kept the information to himself. Luckily, it wasn’t for too long. “The next inning, we pinch-hit for him,” Coppenbarger said after the game. “I went over and mentioned it to [pitching coach] Rich Dubee first. He said, ‘Just go ahead and tell him right now.’ ” What did Hamels say in the dugout? “He was sort of numb,” Coppenbarger said. -Philadelphia Inquirer

Terez, I really can't excited without a Stick in my hand...

Chevrolet gave Cole Hamels a 2010 Camaro as part of the prize for being the Phillies World Series MVP. The one on the field wasn’t the one for Hamels. It was just a model. He got to order his, whatever he wanted. Ever the romantic, Hamels ordered the testosterone-pumper for his wife, Heidi. Really, what else would the hottest “Survivor” in history want from her Hollywood hubby? And, being a daughter of the Ozarks, well, it had to be a stick shift, right? “I grew up in the country,” she says. “Everybody had a standard. My parents didn’t allow me to learn to drive an automatic.” And what girl loves to double-clutch 426 horsepower with boot-crunchin’ twang blaring on the radio? Little Heidi Hamels does, cowboy. So, no wimpy automatics, please. Cole ordered her the stick. But bailout companies sometimes get things wrong. When the car showed up in May, sure enough, no clutch. No thanks, Heidi said. Phillies pitcher Cole Hamels and wife Heidi Strobel make a big deal over their high-rise apartment in Two Liberty Place, but they’re thinking seriously about a newly constructed four-bedroom, two-story Colonial in Newtown Square listed at $2.2 million. Strobel, due at the end of the summer with their first child, a boy, said she was not sure if they’d keep both places. “We’re figuring out if it’s the right decision,” she told me about buying – given that they also own land near her hometown of Springfield, Mo. “We do love it here [in Liberty Place], but it’s something that Cole and I have to talk about.” The Hamelses previously lived in a West Chester townhouse while she got a master’s at West Chester University. – Philadelphia Daily News
