Chiefs coach Todd Haley insists the team has not contacted Charlie Weis about joining the staff in Kansas City. But Haley, a rookie head coach who is also calling plays as offensive coordinator, acknowledged that someday he would like to let someone else be the coordinator. Weis, fired Monday as coach at Notre Dame, and Haley worked together as assistants with the New York Jets. Weis also won Super Bowls as the offensive coordinator in New England, when Chiefs general manager Scott Pioli was the Patriots’ vice president of player personnel. Haley, who says there will be no coaching staff changes for the Chiefs (3-8) until after the season, contradicted reports that the Chiefs had already contacted Weis about a position. -AP

Shaquille O’Neal wants to teach his estranged wife Shaunie Nelson a thing or two about getting thrown out. We’ve learned Shaq is trying to boot Shaunie from the entire court system in California. Shaunie filed legal papers in California earlier this month for legal separation, having moved to L.A. just days earlier. We’ve learned Shaq’s lawyers filed legal docs, alleging Shaunie has no right to use the California divorce courts because they are residents of Florida. As we first reported, Shaunie stands to get more spousal support in California. -TMZ
Personally I think Shaq is screwed in either state. -TO
Tiger Woods broke his silence briefly on Sunday — and now the Florida Highway Patrol has as well. On Monday, the agency released its first official statement about Woods’ mystery-shrouded Nov. 27 car accident. Of note: the crash investigation continues — and “charges are pending.” FHP notes that it has been “unable to speak to Mr. Woods about the crash…despite attempts to do so.” Yet it confirms that the golfer has provided the basic documentation required by law: his license, registration and insurance information. The brief release does not elaborate on the nature of “pending charges” — whether Woods and/or wife Elin Nordegren would be charged, and for what crime. On Sunday, Woods’ agent explained his client’s decision not to speak with FHP: “Further discussion with them is both voluntary and optional. Although Tiger realizes that there is a great deal of public curiosity, it has been conveyed to FHP that he simply has nothing more to add and wishes to protect the privacy of his family.” CNN senior legal analyst Jeffrey Toobin explained, “Tiger Woods is under no legal obligation to speak with police…The Fifth Amendment gives everyone an absolute right to refuse to talk to them. He may be counting on the fact that if no new news emerges, everybody will move on.” -Us Weekly

The Steelers lost more than just its third consecutive game in a season that’s rapidly headed toward mediocrity. Clearly, it has a schism in the locker room that badly needs to be repaired before it sabotages any chance the Steelers have in the final five games of making the playoffs. Shame on wide receiver Hines Ward for going on national television before the game and saying the team was split almost “50-50″ about whether quarterback Ben Roethlisberger should or should not have played. “I’ve been out there dinged up. The following week, got right back out there,” Ward told NBC. Baltimore Sun
