Ken Pries, the A’s vice president of broadcasting, said that contrary to Jose Canseco’s claims to CSN Bay Area, the team sent him an invitation to Tuesday’s 1989 team reunion. “We absolutely 100 percent sent an invitation, I personally put it in the mail,” Pries said. The invite went out in March, and the A’s believe their address for Canseco to be accurate. – SF Chronicle

A retired secret service officer, Maytorena was part of security teams that protected Presidents George H.W. Bush and Bill Clinton. Of the task of ensuring Ramirez’s safety, Maytorena said, “It’s rather low-key, especially compared to when you go to a G8 Summit.” Maytorena laughed when told that he went from flying on Air Force One to flying on Southwest Airlines, which took Ramirez from Los Angeles to New Mexico on Monday. “I loved playing for the Fighting Illini and appreciate the support I was given by my teammates, coaches and the great fans here,” Jordan in a statement. “But I have come to the point where I’m ready to focus on life after basketball.”
Jordan got a scholarship before the 2009 spring semester. In all, he appeared in 59 career games, totaling 58 points, 42 assists and 24 rebounds. A defensive specialist, Jordan averaged 8.4 minutes as a sophomore after playing 5.3 minutes per game as a true freshman.

Bengals receiver Chad Ochocinco and Chargers linebacker Shawne Merriman are known for their talk on the field, but it’s their online chatter that’s becoming good offseason entertainment.Ochocinco said this week on the social networking site Twitter that he was confident the Bengals would win the Week 15 matchup between the two teams and challenged Merriman and the San Diego defense. Merriman’s reply of “Are you serious?” prompted Ochocinco to challenge the Chargers OL to a boxing match. The receiver, who is sparring this offseason, also posted: “Shawne Merriman tryin to stop Ocho Cinco, CHILD PLEASE, better chance at finding Osama!” In response, the Chargers linebacker, who’s working his way back from knee surgery last season, posted a video of himself sparring, looking ready to shut up the Bengals receiver Ochocinco. A brief tale of the tape gives the advantage to Merriman, who’s 6-foot-4 and 272 pounds compared to Ochocinco, who’s 6-1, 192.
